This little hamburger stand, on the corner of Atlantic and Wardlow Road in Long Beach is iconic! Just pull into the service station on the corner, there are parking spots next to the picnic tables. It is a walk up window, where you place your order and pick up your freshly made sandwich. The hot dogs is made the way Hof's used to , back in the beach stand beginning....sliced long way, grilled and served on a burger bun with lettuce, pickles and tomatoes. It's a great deal, for a tasty lunch, served with a bit of nostalgia
The burger was pretty good. Got the burger, fries and drink for $11, which is good these days. The order was done fast as well! Someone needs to update yelp because I almost didn't go because it says they don't take cards but they do! I would recommend this place over any of the chains.
If you're going to see any reviews before going, I implore you to read this one. This is a small shack next to a gas station ran by two nice ladies. Its space is enough for a couple of grills, fridges, and the ingredients alone. However even that, the food and service is outmatched. What they can serve with the quality and pricing with the location that they have, it is spectacular. Lower reviews will focus on the wrong things, and will not oversee the larger picture. They will be getting food that is attached next to a gas station. Of Course, there wouldn't be a lot of parking. It is a small shack selling mainly burgers, of course, there will be a long line sometimes. There are only two people inside, it could take longer than wanted, but it's not as bad as a lunch rush McDonald's, or an average in n out/chic fil a experience But if you get the chance, the parking is not horrendous, just people filling gas and an odd 5-7 parking spaces in a corner. From my experience, the cashier has been nice the 4 times I have been there. And the food, for the price, is beyond necessary to visit. It feels more authentic than a Big Mac, real vegetables, grilled onions, and Thousand Island dressing. If you do not factor in the location and wait lines, this is a unique, small, wonderful place.
This is a burger shack, literally. There's no bathroom. There are 3 picnic tables to eat at. The drinks are in a self-serve cooler. The menu is small. It's definitely divey. Their hours are pretty limited. The location is a gas station parking lot. Parking is limited and some low class people park their cars at a gas pump while they're waiting for their food, which is tacky, rude, and insensitive to others. Does this sound like the start of a good review? No, yet it is. Dave's is really good. It's normally crowded at lunch time. The two ladies working here are pleasant and they work fast. Their fries are pretty good. Their burgers are very good. I get food here once in a while when i'm getting my car washed across the intersection. As their old school clock sign boasts: it's burger time!
This is my go to burger spot when I just want a burger and fries that is reasonably priced and consistently good. This is a no frills burger stand in the same space as a gas station. There is never a long wait and the 2 ladies who work the stand and super friendly and efficient. Their featured item is The Cubby which is a burger with a sliced hot dog inside. My fave is the Patty Melt but it's pretty heavy since it has a double Patty so my usual is just a cheeseburger.
The burgers here are so yummy! The burger was juicy, fries are fresh and they worked so quickly. They accept Apple Pay which saved me because I left my wallet at the office. Make sure you specify if you want fried or chips.
Food : 10/10 all the time! You really can't go wrong with a simple cheeseburger, the chubby, and some fries! The chubby is PACKED and delicious! Service : 10/10 fast and efficient! Ambiance : it's a small place in the chevron gas station parking lot. Perfect spot for a quick lunch or to grab to go! They do have lunch benches for you to sit and eat at.
This is my second time trying Dave's Burgers. Honestly, the first time I barely remembered, so I figured I would give them another try. I ordered the regular chubby combo, which consists of a cheeseburger that is topped with a grilled hotdog and grilled onions. The combo adds fries and a drink. The burger is cooked to order as the location is literally a shack in the parking lot of a gas station. Seating, which are park picnic style tables and benches, is next to the shack. The food comes out nice and hot! The burger was seasoned well and so were the fries. There are nice grill marks on the hotdog and it compliments the burger well. This is definitely a nostalgic place for many that grew up in the neighborhood. For me it was a good experience but not great. I would say if you want a decent burger and are in the neighborhood, give them a try. Otherwise, it's good but not the best.
I had to fast for a medical procedure and left my doctor's office thisclose to HANGRY. I scrolled through my options on Yelp and Dave's Burgers and it's 475 glowing reviews meriting an aggregate score of 4.5 stars COULDN'T be wrong! Dave's it was! Don't be alarmed by its simple, non-glamorous position occupying the SE corner of the Union 76 gas station on the corner of Atlantic and Wardlow in Long Beach! Dave's is as simple as WAIT, STAY and RETURN: **For starters, patiently WAIT your turn to find parking as dozens of cars jockey for the half-dozen spots carved out of the lot; then, **STAY for the glorious, intoxicating smells of freshly griddled plate-sized ground beef patties and butterflied hot dogs plancha'd to a toasty dark brown that fills the air like SCENTED CRACK; then, **RETURN for your next batch of Cubby Burgers! What, you say, is a cubby burger?! Despite its childish name befitting the smallest of bears, Dave's CUBBY Burger is more like the GRIZZLY of bears, um, burgers! Imagine a saucer-sized patty topped with ice cold lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, special sauce and two snappy weiners butterflied then fried to an inch of their lives ... pair it with their golden brown fries, lightly salted and you've got THE REASON for the ridiculous long lines and people -call 'em Dave's Devotees- who wisely wait for their glorious hamburger reward! Pro tip #1: Ask for the optional Pepperoncini peppers and squirt one of those bad boys on your burger!! Pro tip #3: Tip, literally and often, the smiling, hard at work magicians who work tirelessly in a kitchen the size of the snack bar of the Reseda Little League forty years ago! Here's rooting for the sustained booming success of Dave's Burgers!! I may live over forty miles from Long Beach but at least now I KNOW where I'll eat my lunches whenever I visit that particular specialist! Sheeeeeeeeeiiit. If the U.N. could get Vlad Putin and President Zelensky of Ukraine to break bread over a duo of Cubby Burgers, we'd have a peace agreement hammered out before the first satisfied belch!!
Best gdamn burger in Long Beach!!! It is like stepping back in time to a roadside stand in the 50's. The prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are generous. I get the cubby and I am never disappointed. It is a big patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, special sauce, but it is topped with a butterflied and grilled hot dog. The best! This burger is made with so much love. It is simple, the ratio of meat to bun to veggies to sauce is just perfection. Also, they now have French fries! Last time I was year (years ago) they did not. The staff is super cool and friendly. The Shack can only fit 2 workers and it is only open until 6pm, so treat yourself to this rare vestige of the past and come get a cubby!
